I tried to install Freenas on a old dell PC. it booted from the installation media but when i restarted the system and removed the installation media it wouldn't boot from the boot device.
it has a intel core 2 duo.

You will need to look at the boot device in the BIOS first, but it could be that the latest version of FreeNAS (using the FreeBSD bootloader) is a no-go for that machine.

You may find more success with FreeNAS 9.10
