I installed FreeNAS on an old PC.
Build:FreeNAS-9.2.1.3-RELEASE-x64 (dc0c46b)
Platform:Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4600 @ 2.40GHz
Memory: 8170MB
The OS is installed on a SD card and Sata adapter
USB3 adapter card
Sans Digital TR5UT+B 5Bay USB 3 tower with 5 2tb WD Red HD installed.
I have put together a new freenas box using a
SUPERMICRO MBD-A1SRi-2758F-O Mini ITX Server
16 gb of ram
I migrated the 5 2tb drives from the USB tower to the new case along with
the OS version 9.2.1.3 on the 16 gb sd card in the sata adapter.
I want to do a fresh of install version 9.3. Since the new box has no DVD drive and no open ports I used an external drive connected to a USB port. The installation starts but hangs up.
Can Freenas be installed from an external dvd drive?
If so how?

Thanks
Ken

I'd say the problem lies within the SATA to SD adapter, most likely.

There's no how-to on installing from an external drive. There's literally no difference.
