Just another roadblock, or so it seems. :(

I just attempted to upgrade from 8.2-beta4 to 8.2-release-p1, and got stuck at first base.

I'm using the WebGUI method.
I downloaded the <FreeNAS-8.2.0-RELEASE-p1-x64.GUI_Upgrade.txz> file, and the
<FreeNAS-8.2.0-RELEASE-p1-x64.GUI_Upgrade.txz.sha256.txt> file as well.

Firmware Update step (1) "Place to temporarily place firmware file". The drop-down box is empty.

So, what am I missing here?

Do I have to manually create and mount a storage location on the CF card? (e.g. /mnt/volume1)
The documentation makes no reference to the latter.

FYI: This is a new server. I haven't even created volumes on it as yet.

Thanks for the replies,
Bryan

You answered your own question and didn't know it. ;). The OS needs temporary storage space to store your update file. It uses any volume that is NOT on your USB. SO yes, you have to create a volume before you can do the update.

Thanks noobsauce80 for chiming in.
I laughed with you :) as to the simplicity of the solution.

But in all respects, the...
"The OS needs temporary storage space to store your update file. It uses any volume that is NOT on your USB"
is not common knowledge for a noob like me.

As a result, all of those little secrets created hurdles that I have had to overcome, and as such, are now documented in my project journal.

Oh, you're absolutely correct. It can be a PITA learning the little things about a new OS. When I built my first FreeNAS server I was worried I'd spend a bunch of money and then find a problem I couldn't resolve.
