Good evening everyone, I'm having a bit of a problem with my new Freenas setup. I'm still waiting for the 6th hard disk to arrive and in the mean time I'm testing it out with the 5 I have in a RAIDZ1. Currently I haven't changed much in the settings other than starting CIFS, and setting up the CIFS shares. I transferred a recording (.wtv) from my media library on my old server over to the new Freenas and started watching it on a desktop machine using J River Media Center. Everything was fine until I started skipping around in the file, the video started to get a little jittery but recovers. When I checked the KVM console I've got the following error:

(ada2:ahcich3:0:0:0): READ_FPDMA_QUEUED. ACB: 60 00 00 4a 41 40 01 00 01 00 00
(ada2:ahcich3:0:0:0): Retrying command

and this repeats twice more.

The numbers change depending on where I am in the file, but it's always ADA2 that has the problem and this disk only had very little use before I noticed the error. I can easily recreate the error. I ran a short and a long smartctl test and they didn't detect any problems. Here is the output of smartctl:

Code:
[brandon@freenas] /# smartctl -a -q noserial /dev/ada2

Even more weird is if I watch the recording normally without skipping around it doesn't throw any errors at all. Any ideas?

EDIT: I tried reseating the cable but that didn't help.
EDIT2: Probably should have given some hardware/software info:
Machine is based on a Supermicro x10slm w/ Xeon 1230v3
16gb (4x4gb) Kingston ECC unbuffered memory, labeled KVR16E11S8/4. I recall that 3 of the sticks the chips that were branded as Kingston, and one of the sticks had chips that were branded Hynix.
Onboard Intel disk controller is used
Onboard NIC's are used
5x HGST Deskstar 4tb 7200rpm HD's
Sandisk 16gb USB drive for the OS
Machine doesn't have any expansion cards installed
The disk in question is NOT in a hotswap bay, 3/5 disks are in hotswap bays
All hardware is brand new
Running the latest Freenas 9.2.1.7

Trying a new sata cable, I don't know why I didn't think of it before. It's looking promising I'm skipping around the file without errors showing up on the console.

UDMA CRC errors are characteristic of bad SATA cables.

Concur. Everything about this situation smacks of a SATA cable/connection issue.

Yeah, it's very likely a cabling issue. Though don't rule out power as a possible cause. Power fluctuations due to poor cabling to the hard drive or something like an old or crappy PSU can cause this problem.

But, as a first step I'd replace the data cable. It's cheap, it's easy, and it fixes the problem about 90% of the time.
