Complete Noob to FreeNAS and have been tasked by my company to build a storage server. Was just going to build it as a Linux Server when a colleague pointed me in this direction.
My question is that we have an account with ServerMonkey (servermonkey.com) and I was wondering about using either a Dell 2850, or 2950 poweredge server as the platform to build it on.
Use 5 1.5TB drives in the RAIDZ3 config.
We would only have a maximum of 8 people accessing this server at once and will mostly be used to store recorded calls (ftp'd into folder) and some documents.
The drive will need to be accessed by people outside of the firewall and the end thought is to have two identical units (one at each office) mirror each other for backup.
Any thoughts on the suitability of these servers or would you have another recomendation for rack server to use.
