I decided to go with 2TB drives but the board supposedly can support 3TB.

I picked up the same board as you did but I've noticed an undesired behavior:

After a minute of switching the PSU on, leaving the computer off, a green LED labeled "DP1" (I think) near the nuvoton chip starts to blink and the on-board buzzer buzzes. Once you turn the computer power on the buzzing stops, but the LED continues to blink. A few moments after turning the computer power off the buzzing starts again (the LED still blinks).
(Link: picture of LED)

Does yours do this? Is there some BIOS setting to disable this feature (I imagine server boards need to get attention when they're off?) or is my board just defective?

I haven't yet found anything about the LED in the manual yet.

Thanks,
Antioch

Another quick question:
Does your board support 3TB+ HDs (I believe that requires UEFI BIOS).

Thanks,
Antioch

I am a copy cat! I almost have the same setup as Teck
The board supports WDCs WD30EZRK. I just got six of them this weekend and I can see them in my box. It where discovered in the bios. I do not know why but it took some time before I could see the disk in Freenas on disk level.
The speed I get in copy and reading is not that good but I guess that is because I need to upgrade my switch. At least that is what I hope the reason is.

Do you not have any issues with the buzzer buzzing when the computer is powered down?
No buzzer sound. Can you login into IPMI?

Thanks for confirming, much appreciated. I used to get the speeds you saw into OP, right now the speed is cut in half. It is certainly NOT due to hardware changes (nothing was chnaged) and FreeNAS developers have no input.

Sorry !!
Well, 35W is not that mutch to my knowledge. A Server or a standard pc is about 60W to 80W but what I whis is that my copy preformance would be better. That was the performance I was refering to. :)

If you find out how to improve the transfer speed, please let us know. We all have the same issues.

I also have a question for you, related to the Rocket 620 card. Sometimes, when I do a reboot from GUI the Rocket card does not initializes the disk. I would say once every few reboots. Reboot from GUI several times and let me know if the disk is detected properly every time. Thanks.

Hmm! Puzzeled.... What do You mean? So your system wont reboot from the GUI? Is that what You are saying? I have to check that. My box is located just beside my home comptur at the moment and I have not used the reboot from the webinterface since the keyboard is not to far away. I will check if I have any issues.

Read my post. When you reboot FreeNAS, the Rocket 620 will get initialized at BIOS startup. It shows clearly on your screen.
I have rebooted my box approximatly ten times the last days. I have done "shutdown -p now" and issued the command reboot and I have not had any problems with the Rocket.

Thus far the rocket has done lift off with the SSD disk as a passenger.

I've made a huge scientific test
LOL :o
I found a software from TUTU SOFT that was really usable. http://www.totusoft.com/
LanSpeed!

Here are my results.
First I took it over my home network and measured the speed
And then got the following values:
Lan_speed_Nortel.jpg
I got hold of a Nortel 5510 and what I can see the NAS hooks up with Ethernet Autoselect 1000baseT Full Duplex
shell_CrossCabel.jpg
I used a cat 5 cabel and this what I get when I run the command ifconfig from the shell

Then I took a cat 5 crossover cable and connected directly to my FreeNAS 8.2.0 from my computer
And then I got the following value.

Lan_Speed_crossCabel.jpg

Lost in Gravity here!!!??

I really thought I would get a higher value on a crossover cable than what I would get when I run on my home network.
So! I do not need to fasten my seatbelt to move files but I was hoping for better value.
Wonder if it would get better with cat6 cable?
hmmm? Is there crossovercabel cat6?

It would also be interesting if someone else with a similar setup could do the same thing. Wonder what value they would get?
