Hi,

I currently run FreeNAS on a ASUS E35M1-M with integrated AMD CPU and 8 GB RAM.
I use a Fractal Design Array R2 cabinet and 4x 2TB Seagate Barracuda green discs.
The setup was built in 2011 and the last year two of the disks have stopped working.

During Black Friday I bought 4x WD Red 4 TB and wanted to upgrade the discs, but have now changed my mind and want a new motherboard, CPU and RAM aswell.
I want to continue using my cabinet with the built in 300W PSU and buy a mini-ITX motherboard in my new setup.

I've had a look at the new 8th Gen intel family and found a Motherboard (Gigabyte Z370N) thats the cheapest in Norway which supports the new 8. Gen and has the correct form factor.

I'm considering an i3 which I beleive will serve the purpose of running the NAS for some time in addition to a Plex server with a maximum of 3 streams.

What do you guys think? How much RAM do I need? Will ann 8 gen i3 do the job? Does FreeNAS support 8 gen?

Thanks in advance!

You would be best served to take a step back from the technology cutting edge and buy something that has been out for long enough to have good support and reports back from people that are using it. Performance does not need to be mind-bending to be good enough. My server (see my signature) is more than adequate for run three Plex streams. As to what to buy, please review the guides that much time has been invested in creating.
