Hello,

I have had a freenas box up and running for a while and have a question - if i move a hard drive that is connected through one port in the motherboard to a port on my RAID card (in IT mode) will FreeNas notice its the same drive (as part of an existing RaidZ2) or will it freakout?

Thanks,
Chris

I think the answer is "yes". If I'm not mistaken (Cyberjock explained this to me once), the whole GPTID business in the drive listing is precisely for this situation---the drive can be identified no matter which header shows the device.

I would wait for a more definitive answer though.

As long as the drives are exposed to the OS (no RAID or other shenanigans) you can move them around carelessly. If you're using IT mode, nothing to worry about.

Thank you both for the quick response. I will proceed forward as planned.

Thanks,
Chris

You may have to adjust your scheduled SMART tests, as these go by port (if done through the GUI).
