I'm trying to put together a new box with 8 disks. I'd prefer not to use a pci card just because I don't like the idea of jamming that many disks behind a 33mhz bus. The GIGABYTE GA-P67X-UD3-B3 motherboard is on sale. It looks really ideal for what I'd like to do, especially because I already have the ram and processor for this board. While 6 of the sata ports are controlled by the intel chipset, 2 are a Marvell 88SE9172 controller. According to this http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?p=166005 the marvell controller is now supported by freebsd. The question is whether freenas recompiles the latest version of freebsd with each release. So will 8.0.4 have support for this marvell controller? Or for that matter, does the current version already support it? I would love to use this board because of the price. There aren't that many motherboards with 8 ports ... the only one I could find with all ports controlled by the intel controller was over $200
Thank you!
