Mac users locking files on CIFS share

good evening experts -

I have an issue with my mac users that occasionally they will lock the file and take ownership of it. It appears that they are changing the ACL but there appears to be many factors but I can't seem to pin any of them down.

I think there must be something very obvious that I'm missing. Also I never have this problem with the windows users.

for reference point we have a Iomega StorCenter ix4-200d and have the same issue there.
