Can WD Reds (SATA) be connected to an LSI 2308 (SAS2)? This would seem to be a dumb question but I've seen mixing on other components that just involved using the right cables and adapters, etc.

More specifically, I'm wondering if I could plug in WD Red 4TB drives into the 8 ports exposed by the LSI 2308 on the X10SL7-F.

Even if this *is* possible, would I be better off plugging an M1015 into the MB and connecting my drives to it?

Does either approach deal better with SMART data acquisition, etc?

Thanks!

As long as SMART works fine with your controller(s), none that I can think of.
