Hi All,

A couple of days ago I decided to give 8.3.1 a go so shutdown my old version 0.7.whatever box whipped out the OS usb stick dropped in another one with FN 8 installed. Powered up and all seemed fine until i tried to find my 4 disk RAID5 array! It knows the 4 drives ar there but can't ID the array.
Poop! FN8 doesn't support UFS RAID5. Hey ho.
Dropped my FN0.7 USB stick back in booted up fine but... NO ARRAY! Again it sees my drives and kinda knows there was an array But i can't mount it or do anything with it.
I know next to nothing about unix/linux so I hope you guys can help me. Ive got 4 or 5 TB of data on that thing and am going to be gutted to lose it! In fact, if you can help me get my array back I promise to donate as a sign of appreciation!
I know you'll need fore info from me to help but not sure what you'll need so just ask and I will provide any info i can.

Hope you can help folks!

Did you attempt to import the array or create a new volume with the disks? If not, the data should still be there.

FN 7 is long deprecated. Try seeing if the latest version of NAS4free can pick up the disks. If it has problems importing the RAID, their is a NAS4free forum.

Yeah, tried the import. No chance I'm gonna try to create a new array! I didn't try to create a new volume. I'm guessing that would overwrite my original array which I'm pretty sure is still actually there but jus screwed up somehow. I've briefly tried n4f but still a no go. I'll give it another stab and jump on their forums if thats more suitable.

Have you ensured that the original FN7 pen drive is on the same usb port that it used to be and you have not changed the sata connections on the motherboard? I dont think booting with FN8 would modify UFS volume so that FN7 does not recognize it.
You could also try to install freebsd on a separate hard disk and then try is freebsd sees the volume

Yep, I'm using the single internal usb port on an HP microserver so I know the port hasn't changed. Also the 4 drives terminate in a single minisas connector so all drives ar in the exact same positions logically and physically.
I'll give freebsd a go. I did give freesbie a go last night but it doesn't boot on the microserver.

Thanks for the help so far. I'm going to keep trying...

Does this give you any clues? I'll do some googling and see what I can find.

FN7 is not supported in this forum. You should visit the NAS4Free forums with that info...

This is likely the simpler path. Using RAID5 in FreeNAS 8 requires some command line fu. If you decide to use FreeNAS 8 then actual messages from 8 would be useful.
