IX FreeNAS Mini vs Newegg

I have been building a wishlist on Newegg and there is another thread here with my list. I have changed some things, but not much. I just realized that my list for an 4TB x 8 drive system is $2433.76 and the FreeNAS Mini is only a couple hundred more at $2649.

I enjoy building a system, but not a lot. What are the advantages and disadvantages of just buying one vs building one?

Would the IX have better or cheaper components? I have my Newegg spec'ed for E3-1225 3.3, SuperMicro MBD-X11SSM-F-O, and 8 4TB WD Reds. How does that compare to the IX? What components do they use?

The FreeNAS Mini uses ASRock Rack C2750D4I boards. A quad-core Skylake Xeon is going to eat its lunch.
