Is motherboard RAID-5 needed to run RAIDZ1? *SOLVED*

I've Googled and searched this forum but my search criteria hasn't come up with an answer.

My question is: If a motherboard supports RAID 0/1/10 but does not support RAID-5, will I be able to run RAIDZ1 with my 3 ZFS drives?

Yes it will. Don't configure any RAID stuff on the motherboard - just let FreeNAS handle it.

motherboard raid has nothing to do with ZFS. most motherboard raid setups you find are fakeraid and wouldnt work properly anyway with a BSD/linux system.

in other words, DO NOT CONFIGURE MOTHERBOARD RAID AT ALL. just plug the drives in and set BIOS to AHCI mode and start FreeNASing

Thank you for the replies. I just didn't know enough about motherboard RAID technology that if having RAID on the motherboard was a requirement or if FreeNAS's software RAID did its magic on its own. Thank you!
