During setup, had network cable connected to dedicated IPMI port. Did NOT set a hardware IP number. Couldn't get out to the Internet, but I knew that would happen do to using the IPMI port.

Switched from dedicated IPMI port to the 1st Ethernet port. This should allow me to both interact with Freenas via the webui, as well as interact with the impi as there are two different MAC addresses.

I cannot seem to be able to interact with both of them. I'm sure I'm not addressing it right, but I'm a little stymied.

Could someone throw a little light on how I can have the Jave applet running for the IPMI and interact with that while at the same time I have am interfacing with the webui for FreeNAS all while only using one cable?

Thank you much ahead of time if you take the time to answer this question.

You understand it is two different IP addresses? If you didn't assign a static IP address for your IPMI interface, it probably got a new IP address assigned when you un-plugged that dedicated interface and plugged into the onboard Ethernet interface. Also, IPMI is usually only available on the lowest numbered LAN port, so you need to ensure that you are plugged into the correct port.

Here is the link to the manual:

and the quick reference guide:

I didn't know it was two different addresses. The ethernet is in the correct one. I'll look over the manual again and see if I can dig up how to set a static IP address for the IPMI specifically.

Yes, it is a requirement that they be two separate IP addresses because they both generate a web page.

So... kinda important that you put the cable in the right port....... in the failover port now. Configured. It was a case of PEBKAC
Thanks Chris.
