I've had two motherboards now (different brands) where under load I get a lost drive. This is with the Intel 6.0Gbps ports. On the 3Gb ports the same disks are fine with no issues. Any thoughts? I'm using Seagate 7200.12's 3TB drives x4. When I add 2 more more just move the existing ones to the 6Gb ports they go missing.

Running Freenas 9.2.0
E5-1620v2 Xeon Quad Core - 3.7 Ghz $300
Supermicro X9SRL-F ATX - $290
32GB ECC reg. ram.

It sounds like there's 2 possibilities:

1. Something wrong with your board.
2. Some kind of disk problem with support 6Gbps SATA.

I know I used to do Seagate exclusively, but I don't anymore. That's all I'm going to say about that. ;)

I'm inclined to blame the drives. Bad Intel SATA controllers are newsworthy, and the X79 family doesn't have any such known issues (and it's been around for two years now).

I'm included to blame the drives too after doing a little reading. Replaced the one and resilvered it. Now another randomly dropped. I think I'm going to try a firmware update on these guys to see if it resolves the issues.
