Be aware, the VMware setup and FreeNAS setupmpartsmof that 6 year old post are quite obselete. The SAN/iSCSI explanation and iSCSI setup are still correct I believe.

BTW vSAN now has a different meaning to when that article was written ;)
thanks, yeah i have read it, i was expecting the kind of thing that i would be able to send virtual copies to my clients from my freenas. I know how to configure the ISCSI but what i dont know how to configure is how i would send virtual copies to my clients. i didnt know that vsan had changed meaning :/

The term "vSAN" is now a VMware trademark and I believe it refers to a virtual San made up of all the storage from all the vSphere/ESXi nodes in the vCenter cluster.

so then, what would it be called if i have a storage server that has a master copy of all the files, and i want my other clients to access the server disk but they are allowed to write on it(virtual) but not really rewrite the master copy. is it called cloning? disk cloning? -edit

or what about that other thing called Vnas?
