Hi All,

In the last couple of weeks I have power failures in the hood and when I switch all my NAS, PC and AV receiver on they get allocated different IP addresses each time.
Is there a way to create a static IP for my NAS so I don't have to keep setting up my Media drive in Windows each time I loose power?

Can someone please point me to an easy to use instructions page on how to do this please?

Cheers

There are two ways to do this. You can go into the FreeNAS Network settings and manually set a static IP address or go into your router and set a static reserve that will give your FreeNAS the same IP address any time it does a DHCP request.

http://portforward.com/ or your router manufacturer will have some information that you can look up for your router.

http://doc.freenas.org/9.3/freenas_network.html is if you want to set the IP as static on the FreeNAS itself.

Thanks Nightshade I will give them a go and see how it all works out.

Hopefully I won't have any other questions but just in case thanks for your help.

Hi Nightshade,

Can you tell me when configuring the Static IP on the NAS through the Web GUI what should I be putting down for the "Destination Network" and is the Gateway the IP address I need to choose eg: 192.168.0.15 and what would the "Description" be?

Sorry I am just really new to all this.

Cheers

btw, you should get a UPS and configure FreeNAS to shutdown gracefully after a power failure.
