Hi there, I am brand new to this. I am trying to use external hard drives for my pool, but when the power goes out or I need to reboot, it tries to boot from the external drives and not the hard drive. I have messed with the boot options, but nothing has worked. Any advice? I know how to trick windows into thinking externals are local in windows, just can't figure it out in FreeNAS (if even possible). Thank you!!!!

Any advice?

First advice is do not use external hard drives. You are asking for trouble.

As for the boot device, this is configured in the BIOS, not the operating system.

I suggest you look at this guide to help you know what to tell us so we are better able to help you:

Then, you might want to look at this guide to give you some hardware pointers, because it sounds like you have made some poor hardware selections:

Hardware Requirements

Hardware Recommendations Guide Rev. 1e) 2017-05-06

Hardware Recommendations by @cyberjock - from 26 Aug 2014 - and still valid

FreeNAS is not demanding the latest hardware, but there are some recommendations for the sake of compatibility and reliable operation.
