Hi there,
I have posted my question in another thread, but it looks like better to directly detail it here ;)
I am currently searching for the hardware I will use for my home NAS server.

The typical usage I will do are:
  • 24h/7d online
  • data center for the whole house (videos, music, photos for computers, tvs, consoles)
  • program installation provider (install typical applications/games directly onto it, and use them through the network)
  • web services: torrent, http server, ftp server

I already have wired my house with cat7 cable largely supporting gigabit transfers.

I was thinking to use the following hardware, please give any advice:
  1. Fractal Design Array R2 300W SFX PSU Case (looks awesome on your pics)
  2. Zotac Z68ITX-A-E motherboard
    Why this card?
    • 2xgigabit lan (will be paired)
    • 16GB max memory (2x8Gb will be installed)
    • 2x SATA 6Gbps + 2x SATA 3Gbps (natively 6 SATA ports would be nice, but I did not found it)
    • CPU LGA 1155 (i3/5/7)
    • 1x mSATA port with Wifi installed (removed as not required)
  3. MegaRAID SAS 9240-4i to support up to 4 additionnal SATA ports (I miss 2 on the motherboard)
  4. Crucial Ballistix Sport 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR3 1600 MHz CL9
  5. For the processor, I do not know... something with low consumption... perhaps an Intel Core i3-2120T (2.6 GHz)?
(low TDP of 35W, nice perfs)
  6. 6x Western Digital Caviar Green 2 or 3 TB 64 MB Serial ATA II or III
Will be configured in RAIDZ1, so 1 disk for parity and 10 or 15 TB available for storage (depending on the 2 or 3 TB setup).
  7. Corsair Flash Voyager USB 3.0 8 GB for the FreeNAS system

Thank you for any pointer that would help me with this configuration ;)
