I'm Bart from the Netherlands after years of windows server (NT to 2012R2, 16 i don.t like) and private
Nas4free i'm testing Freenas. I tel you, stil no easy task. Seting up a storage for windows with correct permissions on 2012R2 takes me, after setting up the hardware, about 5 to 10 minutes. Now i'm struggeling for days with Freenas. The standard share is easy, also about ten minutes but then, Freenas dissapears from the network, shares dissapear, no write , no read. enz.

And only interested because off ZFS and speed, still te better of Refs on cheap hardware, plus 100 Mbsec

BTW i have nas4free connected with iscsi to my windows 2012R2 box so i can set permissions whitin Windows as a local disk, works perfect. Only the upgrading of the Nas4free disks is a pain Add vdefs or completely rebuild. I assume the same problem on Freenas

Yes, this is a limitation of ZFS.

EDIT: another option is to replace all drives in a vdev with larger drives.
