What is ok HDD temps? Some say around 35 others under 50.

Well... turns out it's wery much like granma's cookees. A matter of taste... i think.

I originally were aiming at <40 Celcius.

I now have my Fractal Design R3 box with 6 Hitatchi drives in it in its own room. 2x 120mm front fans blowing at full speed at my drives. 1x exhaust fan. Cool air coming out.

NO LOAD!!

Room temp is 19 Celcius. And still, my drives are around 40 Celcius +/- 2 degrees.

So a little hotter room temp and a little load... temps go straight to the low 50's...

What are your spec and temps?

Hopefully I can post links. What you need to do is look up the specifications for the specific drives you have. For instance, here's the spec sheet for some WD Green drives ("WD Green drives"). Just go to google and type in your HDD model number followed by " specifications" and look for links that references the manufacturer's web site (basically wdc or seagate at this point). For instance, the WD20EADS operating temp is 0-60C. Above 50C and you're moving in the the yellow. In fact, some of the WD green drives specify a range of 5-55C.
