So i get a message on boot up that hard drive on ad5 is failing, back up now. I found the drive that was failing, it has a share called "DATA". I disconnected the drive completely from the system. I have a new 3tb Toshiba drive, plugged in the Toshiba and rebooted. The previous share of "DATA" is up and empty. It shows 2.4 gbs of free space available. How can this be? I thought I had to format and mount the drive and create a new share. I am using FreeNAS 0.7RC1, I am confused as to how this can happen. Can anyone shed any light on that? Thanks.

You are very confused and in the wrong forum. This is the FreeNAS 9 Forums, you need to look for the NAS4Free forums for the 0.7 version help. When you post your question I would suggest you add more details about how your pools are created.
