I'm working with a stack of old Proliant DL380 servers trying to get the to run as fileservers with FreeNAS, but I'm having a recurring hang.

The specs are:

2x Xenon 2.8 GHz CPUs
1 GB ECC memory
5x 73 GB SCSI drives
1X 9GB Scsi drive (eventually for the OS)

The machine POSTs fine, sees the CD disc image and starts to load FreeNAS, but during the hardware discovery phase it always hangs at the same spot. I tried loading FreeNAS on another DL380 and it hung at exactly the same spot which suggests the issue isn't restricted to just the one server.

The last three lines on the console before the hang are:

usbus0: 12 Mbps full speed USB 1.0
ugen0.1: <0x1166> at usbus0
uhub0: <ox1166 OHCI root hub, class 9/0, rev 1,00/1,00, addr1> on usbus0

and then it hangs.

I found one other person online with a similar problem, but no solution.

I tried installing a Ubuntu live CD and a WinXP Pro live CD, both of which got part way and hung, though neither of them are as verbose as FreeNAS. Could this be an issue with newer USB drivers being incompatible with USB 1.0 hardware?
