Freenas 8 email setup

Hello I am having an issue with FreeNAS. I am a new comer to this and have figured out how to set up a windows share, but now I am struggling to set up email. My build is 8.0.4-release-x64 (10351). I have my IPv4 default gateway set to 192.168.2.1 and nameserver set to 8.8.8.8. Under my email tab I have

from email ***@gmail.com
outgoing mail server smtp.google.com
tls/ssl SSL
use smtp auth Checked
username **@gmail.com
password *****

I then when into the accounts and changed the root email to ***@gmail.com When I try and send a test email i get, "Your test email could not be sent: timed out". So what am I doing wrong?

Try port 587 and in the dropdown for TLS/SSL choose TLS.

Are you using the right port (465 I believe) for SSL?

TLS doesn't work

Ahhh, I see your problem. You are using smtp.google.com instead of smtp.gmail.com

just would like to ride on the subject -- I'm trying to configure my email however i'm seeing syntax errors.. I'm in freenas 8.0.4 -P2

when clickin on the send testemail -- i got this from the header as error message
"Your test email could not be sent: {u'': (555, '5.5.2 Syntax error. b10sm16623018pbr.46')}"

Checking at the maillog -- i got the following.

Are there limitations to the password field? cannot use special characters? max length or something? or is this just a bug?

That looks like a bug that should be reported at support.freenas.org

Post the same info you just posted above and any other details you can if you open a ticket.

as it seems it is user error :P

need to setup user Root to have email and then configure the email in settings.

Oops, well it should give you a proper warning instead of just crashing like that. You can update your ticket and suggest that.

Hi all, new user. Just wanted to add (for anyone else like me that was struggling with the email function) - I was not able to get gmail working until I added my DNS info (Network Settings | Global Configuration | Name server). Once I did that - worked like a charm.
