Hi all,

I used the same system for 4 month:
> supermicro X7DVL-3
> 8GB RAM
> FlashDrive Kingston DataTraveler 100G2 8GB
> FreeNAS 8.3.0-RELEASE-p1-x64 (r12825)
> CPU Intel Xeon E5310
> Disks :
> RAIDz1 Seagate Barracuda ES - ST3750640NS (4 disks )
> MIRROR-0 Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 - HDS722525VLSA80 (2 disks )

Each volumes are in ZFS

I use NFS and CIFS Sharing for several month. I had no system crash or kernel issues.
BUT! For 3 days it crashes and displays this message :
"Fatal trap 9, general protection fault while in kernel mode."

I have no logs before the system boot.
How can I manage to have more logs?
How can I solve this issue?
Do I need to change the flashDrive?
Do I need to change something in my software or hardware configuration?

I need to understand the issue :)

Thanks!

Generally, when you get a kernel panic its a hardware issue. Try a RAM test first since its easy to do and cheap(cost of a burnable CD). I use memtest86+ personally.

I have experience this issue with my cheap built and I had to reduce RAM clock to get is stable. I wasn't overclocking though.
I suspect your RAM configuration in the BIOS may have been lost, ie: CMOS battery could be dead.

Perfect example of why ECC is required...

I was getting the same error using 9.1 RC1 64bit when I was transferring many files of size greater thatn 25GB (I think it had something to do with transfer time...). Then I read that the Realtek NIC is not quite supported so I switched to my other NIC (Intel I think) and everything now is OK. I hope this helps....

I know the thread is a bit old, but this is really a hardware issue.

I've a pfSense box, which isn't even a FreeNAS one, and the motherboard just died (yes, on xmas). And I'm with the same panic at boot when the board powers on, because mostly of the time it's just silent dead.
