ECC RAM mix sizes?

I currently have a hp proliant server I bought. It came with one 8 gb of ecc unregistered ram stick. If i add another stick of ram of ECC unregistered can I buy a 16gb one or do I have to match the existing one of 8gb. I know for ddr they have to match in home pc because of dual channel and stuff but I'm not sure for server pc.

They usually do not have to match. I also have an HPE Proliant server that came with 4GB RAM. I put an additional 8GB in it and have had no problems.

ECC makes no difference in supported topologies.

i bough the ML10 it came with a 4g stick and i added a 16g stick. works good
