I have a disk that has not been found by FreeNAS after system boot on the last two occurences. Normally the server runs continously, and it had been running without error since the last boot, to update to FN 11.1-U6. I shut it down to move it a few days ago, and disk /dev/da4 was not found after start up, and that RAIDZ2 pool was degraded. I rebooted the server, and the disk was found. FreeNAS did a very quick resilver, which completed successfully, but reporting 3 checksum errors on that disk. The SMART data looked good, and the disk passed a long test without error, so I did a
After that event, everything was fine until now. We went on the road for several days, and I elected to shut the server down, as it would not be possible to provide timely response to any HW failures (fan failures, etc). I rebooted the server after returning home, and the same disk was not available. It took two reboots before it finally appeared. Once again it resilvered, and showed two checksum errors, which I cleared.
The current SMART report is:
That pool is scheduled to run its weekly long test tonight. We'll see if any new issues are reported.
Other than checking that the power and data cables are secure, is there anything else I should check?
Is this a sign that the disk is getting ready to fail? I'm not seeing any other warning signs, so I'm guessing the disk isn't getting close to end of life.
I've got a new disk all burned in, ready to go if it fails. I've got four backups of the data, two of which are fresh, and the other two less than a week old.
