Hallo Guys,

I found this download on the legacy freeNAS7 forum:

2012-01-29: FreeNAS Nightly build 0.7.5.9898
2012-01-11: FreeNAS Nightly build 0.7.5.9496 released (FreeBSD 9.0 Release ZFS v28 included)

does this mean, there is a parallel further development of both projects?

While freeNas 8.x seems to be more "consumer" oriented and hides most of the great features of
zfs and freeBSD from the user, the 7.x series has a cleaner and much more powerfull UI - where
the user gets also the responses of the system unfiltered. This seems to be the more "professional"
edition of the project, and many missing options are implemented there. It also has the zfs v28 on
board - the latest and greatest along with the latest samba etc.

It also seems from my point of view to be more direct, more OS related in case of the UI - while the
8.0 implementation relies on metadata collected in a database, that can easily run out of sync
when using the command line to circumvent missing functions.

So will there be 2 independent concurrent freeNAS projects? It would be great, if the .7 UI path
continues to be maintained and developed further. Is it possible to have two options for the GUI -
running on the same base system, so the user has the choice of the "whizzard" 8.0 or the hard
core 7.0 gui, but having in both world the stability and reliability of the same OS libraries / kernel?

Thank you very much for any explanitions and information.

btw. can we have also a link to the nightlies for 8.x.x project on the home page / wiki like the .7?
