hello

I have problem with Chelsio T580-LP-CR and freenas 11.2 BETA3

here is the output cat /var/run/dmesg.boot

Code:
t5nex0: <Chelsio T580-LP-CR> mem 0xd9d00000-0xd9d7ffff,0xd8000000-0xd8ffffff,0xd9ffa000-0xd9ffbfff irq 48 at device 0.4 numa-domain 0 on pci2
t5nex0: failed to process config file: 5.
t5nex0: error during attach, adapter is now in recovery mode.

I have a limited knowledge of FreeBSD
I have installed on an other system DELL R320 with Chelsio T580-SO-CR and I had to downgrade the LifeCycle Controller ot a v1.1.1.18 and upgrade the BIOS to v2.5.1, but with this adapter this is not working I tried with different versions of Lifecycle controller seems I am getting the same dmesg output

here is the whole dmesg.boot

Code:
root@freenas[~]# cat /var/run/dmesg.boot

The FreeBSD driver is SUPPOSED to upgrade the firmware if needed. I would try downloading some of the utilities from Chelsio, and build a FreeDOS boot disk/USB key to load those utilities. Do you see any messages from the Chelsio card during POST?

I just installed FreeNAS 11.1 U6 and have no problem with it. I still have test to see if the adapter is working properly but so far so good

If it is a T5, that should be kldload if_cxl. That is what it loads for my T520.

Code:
t5nex0: <Chelsio T520-CR> mem 0xfb300000-0xfb37ffff,0xfa000000-0xfaffffff,0xfbb04000-0xfbb05fff irq 64 at device 0.4 numa-domain 1 on pci14
cxl0: <port 0> numa-domain 1 on t5nex0
cxl0: Ethernet address: 00:07:43:2d:14:70
cxl0: 16 txq, 8 rxq (NIC)
cxl1: <port 1> numa-domain 1 on t5nex0
cxl1: Ethernet address: 00:07:43:2d:14:78
cxl1: 16 txq, 8 rxq (NIC)
t5nex0: PCIe gen3 x8, 2 ports, 18 MSI-X interrupts, 51 eq, 17 iq

I did not have to explicitly load the cxl driver on my system. FreeNAS loads it by default. I am just guessing, but it sounds like the card config or firmware isn't happy with FreeNAS. I have never had to do it, but perhaps you can use the Chelsio utilities to reset the card to default settings. Do you see the card in the BIOS screens before your system loads the OS? You could try doing a config reset there perhaps.

Yes I can, but I dont see any reset to default settings and this is a unified boot configuration
I don't know if there is a tool that can restore the adapter to default

Why the old version of freenas this adapter is working and the new version 11.2 NOT

that's the interesting part. When look at Chelsio download driver for FreeBSD said that the drivers are integrated in the FreeBSD Kernel

I installed FreeBSD on that system got the same thing

I don't have any first hand experience with a T580, so it is kind of hard for me to say. All I can suggest is trying the different settings (1 at a time) for BIOS, Boot Mode, and EDD to see if it changes. You shouldn't have to manually load any modules, at least not on FreeNAS. On FreoBSD, it should be the if_cxl driver (I think).

Everyone I talked about are recommending always Chelsio T580-LP-CR as a best choice for freeBSD and I don't understand why this adapter is not working. with help of chelsio engineers I've got freenas to see the card in Interfaces section and that's it. Cannot establish connection with the switch Says "No carrier" and that's it.

Is anyone here had the same problem.

I use Cisco 3132Q-V switch
Transceiver - Authentic Cisco QSFP-40G-SR4
Cable - MPO - MPO OM3 12 core Fiber I also tried with 8 core fiber

Thank you

Can you get carrier from one port on the NIC to the other port on the NIC? If not, there is either a problem with the card or a problem with your cables/optics.

The card was the problem and I returned to the company that I ordered from. I wan on email for a week with Chelsio engineers and their conclusion was the adapter was defective.

Thank you for your help
