Can't Login to GUI with newly created account

Using 8.01 beta 4 -

Went to Users -> Add User

put in username gamma
added to group wheel
csh
gave a home directory /mnt/pool/beta
(already created, and chown'd to gamma after account creation)
set the password to 'alpha' (no quotes)
clicked OK

I logged out and tried to login (to GUI) as user gamma with the password alpha

Everytime I try to login I get 'Username and password didn't match. Please try again.

I can't be that daft!! What am I missing?

Well at least it's consistent. I tried it again on a fresh virtual test system and got the same result.

What do you mean by login? SSH?

Sorry, no, I mean using the GUI.

You cannot have multiple GUI logins.. there is only one the admin

the Accounts are exclusive for unix accounts
