I've got a new freenas setup running on 9.2.1.6 and have encountered an issue, wondering if anyone else has seen it.

If under CIFs parameters I set the maximum allowed protocol to SMB3, I lose the ability to browse shares from my PC. (Win 8.1 x64) If I map the drive using IP it works fine.

If I turn it back to SMB2, browsing works fine.

I am using workgroups (no DC). Its not the end of the world, but I do get faster performance by around 10% from SMB3, so would be nice to be able to turn it on.

First, 9.2.1.7 is the only release anyone should be using of the 9.2.1.x branch. The reason is all of the 9.2.1.x have a nasty remote root exploit.

Second, SMB3 isn't the default because there are problems with Samba. No idea if/when it will be fixed. That's for the Samba guys to deal with unfortunately. :(

acknowledged, will upgrade. Its a new build but I built the USB stick before receiving the parts I ordered, must have just missed the 9.2.1.7 release.

will stick to SMB2 then for the time being.

Just to add to the conversation (from the 9.2.1.6 and 9.2.1.7 Errata):

NOTE:
Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 use SMB3.02 which is not yet supported by Samba.
