I am relatively new to both Linux and FreeNAS. I note that to create an install stick for FreeNAS 11.2 the command has to be "sudo
dd if=FreeNAS-RELEASE.iso of=/dev/da0 bs=64k"; without the sudo, you can't get access to the target disk. Also, unless the command is run from the directory in which the iso lives, the path must be fully qualified, e.g. if=/home/userid/Desktop/FreeNAS-11.2-RELEASE.iso . I'm sure this is obvious to most people on here; I am commenting in case someone thinks it's worth updating the documentation for other newbs. :)
