Hi folks,

Thank you to all who provided feedback on our original proposal
to change the FreeNAS project's bug reporting system.
We value your feedback.

We would like to proceed with the migration of the bug reporting
system to Redmine on Wednesday, August 21.

Just before the migration starts, we will post an announcement to
the FreeNAS Forums. During the migration, the existing
Trac bug tracker will be unavailable for browsing or entering new tickets.
We will be migrating the old bugs from Trac to Redmine during this time.

When the new bug tracker is available for browsing and entering new tickets,
we will post another announcement to the FreeNAS forums.
For users with existing login ID's in Trac, we will be sending private
e-mails with login information to the new system.

The entire migration process should only take a few hours (hopefully),
so downtime on the bug tracker will be short.

Sincerely,

FreeNAS Developers

Oh, I like pauldonovan's idea. It does make sense.

Perhaps it's too late for this, but 'd like to suggest a change in URL for the bug tracker.

http://support.freenas.org clearly looks like a support site to the uninitiated. Evidence of that is the regular bugs that are closed with "sorry, this isn't a place for support. Please post in the forums at...".

How about http://bugtracker.freenas.org? Or http://bugs.freenas.org

Not necessarily too late! So, you're essentially suggesting that support.freenas.org becomes a landing page which talks about how to get support, recommending the FAQ, the Forums and, when all else fails and it's really a bug or enhancement request that should be suitably tracked, the bugtracker? That seems like a pretty good suggestion, to me! We will discuss this internally. Thanks!

I hadn't thought about it that far, but yes - that makes sense. I had thought that support.freenas.org would redirect to bugtracker.freenas.org (so as not to break any links out there), but having it as a landing page would be good to get people heading in the right direction.

I guess the only issue with using it as a landing page would be if people have direct links to bugs? But I suppose an automatic redirect could be done if the URL has a path, not just a protocol + domain?

Redmine looks good, i hope it will help devs to have better overview.
