Boot drives and l2arc/zil question

I read that about the ram, but I’m not using the third slot yet. It shipped with 6 4gb sticks. I added 6 16gb sticks. So I still have 6 open ram slots. I got that 96gb ram for about $165 figured it was a good deal considering the density.

hmm. If there is nothing in slots 7,8,9 it should default to the slowest of the two speeds, i.e. 1066MHz.
Note that there are three slots and three channels, slot numbering is not sequential and it's easy to get confused (I did when upgrading RAM in T710).
Also if your 16Gb sticks are quad rank, they should be in bank 1 (white tabs), according to pg1 of that document.

Sleds arrived, new server zpool created 6x8TB raidz2 + an nvme for a cache drive. presently transferring about 8TB of data via zfs send/recv over ssh. original server has an em0 nic, and new server igb0, getting 117MBps, about 940mbps. Going through a unifi switch. WIsh I had some 10gb nics right now or the ability to have both of these zpools on the same box :D

How much did you have to spend for a r710? ebay?
I see there $100+/- but that maybe be with no cpu/ram i didnt look.

mine was $200 + $40 shipping(which sucks because the seller is literally a 10 minute drive from my house, they wouldn't let me pick it up)
it came with 24gb ram, 2 power supplies, idrac 6, no drive cages it was a 3.5" drive version, and dual xeon X5670 cpu's. I added more ram, H200 card cross flashed to IT mode, an intel I350 nic, a pci storage card with 2 m2 slots, an nvme drive and sata drive on there, optical slot adapter for an ssd.
