I currently have 4 x 3TB WD Red drives using ZFS2

I have 2 spare 6 TB WD Red drives

Any suggestions for the best and fastest backup scenario (currently I am using about 4 TB of the Zpool)

Best, fastest, safest ...

Some users setup a 2nd FreeNAS box and replicate to it. If you don't want to go that route, one idea might be to take the 2x6TB drives and add a mirrored volume on your server. Replicate the data to it will be fast. On the other hand, if something happened to the server - fire, theft, etc. all your eggs were in the same basket.

Another idea would be to attach one (at a time) the drives to a client machine and replicate the data (rsync, robocopy, ...) to it. Once a week, rotate out the drives and take the other one offsite.

Thanks for the reply since I just built another upgraded freenas box , so I may use the old one to store the backups!
