SOLVED Best practice to update a jail

Hi all,

Using a give custom template, I have let's say 3 jails based on this template.

I'd like to update all of them. Is there a way to update the template, redo a snapshot and change the origin of childs jails to point to this new snapshots.

Not sure it could work that's why I'm asking :)

There is no way to update the template. Had this discusion with the CTO a few weeks ago. Jails are best updated using the packager/repo that you originally used when creating the jail. Most likely this is pkg-ng or ports. I have a script in the how-to section of the forums that lets you run a single command to update all jails simultaneously. :)

That's what I tought. (I've seen your post about updating the jails). The main idea behind that was to minimise space taken by each 'childs' jails using the clone of snapshot.

Like linked clone we can find in several hypervisors.
