I have multiple SMB users in local network, and that is fine.

I want to have couple of folders sheared online with easy access to editing for specific users so that I can grant and revoke permissions and access.
What is the best and secure way of opening FreeNAS server to Internet, but also to keep in mind ease of accessing (maybe SMB or cloud like)?

I don't think you want SMB open to the internet. Have you looked into Nextcloud? That's what I use for public access. Or VPN back into your network.

Hey Ivanavm,

I second with mgittelman's solutions. Here, I VPN to my pfSense box for remote access and I also have Nextcloud. I secured the Nextcloud service with HAProxy also from the pfSense box. These two access are your best bet.

Good luck configuring your own environment,

I think nextcloud would be good solution. Only problem is that I do not see how to install for example Letsencrypt SSL out of the box. It would be great feature to have with FreeNAS & nextcloud.

You're looking at the wrong box. Don't use the half-baked plugin.
