I know that the ideal number of disks for RaidZ2 is 4,6 or 10. But if I add disks and create a new vdev how does this work best? since I have to add a min of 4 drives to create a new vdev and expand the pool, I either need to start with less than ideal number or end with a less than ideal number.
So if I start with 4 drives (prob in one vdev) do I then add 4 or 6 more? if I add 6 I have 2 unequal vdevs but if I add 4 I have only 8 drives (but with equal vdevs). Neither is ideal, but which is the best?
If I start with 6 drives, its easy to add 4 to make 10. but is it ok to have a 6 drive and 4 drive vdev?
Thanks
