I was one of the first (if not the first) person to build a system on the Xeon E3-1230 v5 chips, got FreeNAS running the way I wanted it to, and have been chugging along happily ever since. Now, I have a few questions for you guys since I've been away for so long:

1. What issues will I run into if I update to the latest version of FreeNAS? I'm really looking to avoid having to re-setup my entire system. It's working great now.
2. Is there any reason to get the new version of FreeNAS? What am I missing out on?

Below is the system I've been running:

Build
FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201512121950
Platform Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1230 v5 @ 3.40GHz
Memory 32688MB
System Time Wed Aug 09 01:30:33 EDT 2017
Uptime 1:30AM up 20 days, 23:42, 0 users

Just the typical small issues with jails. In practice, they need to be redone when moving between major versions, if you need to change something in them - but if you're going to do that, wait for 11.1.

That's definitely not needed.

Security fixes, bug fixes, significantly better drivers for a number of things.

If it's worth anything, I'm waiting for 11.1 for the above stated reason. 9.10 is solid in the meantime.

If it is the only server you run, wait until matures. 11.1 might be the target.

Just FWIW, my existing jails (created under 9.10) run just fine under 11, including pkg upgrade inside those jails. Haven't tried adding any new ones, though.
