Hey Guys,
There are about a million subjects on this but nothing really helps me but this is what I have and want to do if possible.
I have a FreeNAS server built using a Dell Poweredge server using 4 3T drives set up as RAID Mirror 1.
What I want to do is figure out how to backup all the data to a LG-NAS external drive.
The deeper question is what would be the easiest way to backup and restore data in case of system failure?
I have thought about adding another drive to the server and mounting it as a separate pool and using CRON to backup to it and swap the drive out once a week.
Would this be better as it would not take as long to backup as compared to backing up over network?
Also, I've read a little bit about replication and snapshots and I've never used them so not exactly sure what they do.
Just dealing with a lot of information overload right now.
Thanks in advance for your valuable help and information.

This is basically what you want to do here.. The instructions are mostly the same. You can most likely drop the sudo from the commands as you will be logged in as root to the FreeNAS machine.
