Hi,
I would like your advices on a new system and the configuration I want to build
The system I have is :
Asrock C2750D4I
32GB ECC RAM
6 HDD 2TB
The goal is to have on the same box :
- freenas
- ESXi 5.5 with a few VMs
I have read the excellent slides from cyberjock.
Here is how I would like to proceeed :
- Install ESXi on disk 1
- Create a datastore for VMs on Disk 2 (disk 1-2 for VMs, no redundancy)
- Create a freenas VM on disk 1 or disk 2
- Use disks 3-4-5-6 as RDM (http://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/esxi-freenas-vm-raidz-testing.6310/#post23517) and mount them as ZFS RaidZ1.
There will be no redundancy on the ESX datastores as the board miss raid functionality (except raid 0/1 on the 2 sata Marvell ports).
I'm not sure ESXi will support disks on this marvell raid.
Of course I plan to have a backup system in place for zfs pool data and my VMs.
How would you optimize this hardware to run ESXi and freenas ?
Any advice/idea/tips appreciated.
Thanks
