Hi all,
I edited my smb.conf file by hand using the console, and it worked, but at the boot the system removed it generating a new smb.conf file. I suspect this is due to the fact that I did not use the webgui. Is there any particular command I can execute from the console to inform the database (and system backup) that files have changed? So that I will not loose my manual changes.

No,

Try using Auxiliary Parameters in the GUI CIFS configuration screen

Thanks, but what I'm looking for is a way to access the NAS via console, edit and change sharing and ensure that the database will not discard my changes. Or, if I can, to modify the database file via console and issue a "reload".

Why do you need FreeNAS at all then? Use pure FreeBSD or a linux distro

Well, I need the power of FreeNAS for almost everything, and when connected to the local lan it is useful to have the very powerful gui. But sometimes I have to create or destroy some cifs share being outside the network and having to connect via ssh.
