AFP in Windows?

In theory AFP shares should work not only with a Mac but also with Windows. All I would have to do is enable network discovery in Windows, enable the SMBv1 client into Windows Features and have a proper ACL associated with an user. I'm trying to understand why AFP shares do not work in Windows. Obviously, if I start the SMB service, everything works fine.

Has anyone else set just the AFP shares for both Mac and Windows?

That's because AFP != SMB. AFP runs AppleTalk over IP, which is a completely different protocol from SMB.

What would make you think this?
enable the SMBv1 client into Windows Features
Or that this has anything to do with your question?

And unless you're supporting clients with very old versions of MacOS, why are you using AFP at all? Apple's pretty well deprecated it, and current releases of FreeNAS even support using SMB shares for TimeMachine (which has for some time been the only reason to use AFP).
