Using 9.3

I'm about to set up shares for an work environment where EVERYONE has a MAC.

I was about to set up everything using AFP, to go with the "native" choice.

However I've read some nasty stuff about AFP, such has it's deprecated and everyone uses CIFS now.

It's a given, MAC can connect to CIFS (SMB) shares.
But in this particular place, everyone has a MAC.

So my question is: which protocol do you recommend and why?

Smb because afp is deprecated. Also depends on if you need time machine and what version of osx they are running.

I use afp, just because it has been easier, but in recent updates I have started to see the depreciation. Errors and bugs. Will be moving to smb.

Any reading material on this deprecation ? I'm curious.

All use latest version of OS X.

Thanks !

Stinks like FUD in here. AFP still works. Probably will continue to do so unless the netatalk dev team all commits ritual suicide or something. Or Apple brings down the axe. Someday. Legacy non-ip AppleTalk support lived on for like a decade after zeroconfig/bonjour replaced it. Huh. Fancy that.

Would I suggest rolling out a huge new setup using it now? No, go SMB. But take all this AFP fire sale crap with a grain of salt.
