I have an old PC. About 2008. I was running Linux mint on it for a while. I need a photo back up solution. I can install 3 HHDs on the motherboard but I'd like to know if I can use a NAS enclosure connected via USB to the PC. Im not extremely techy so this may not work or make sense. Any advice welcome.

I was thinking of using this type of enclosure and adding NAS specific HHD as needed.

TIA

Using USB attached storage for data pools is discouraged;
Further, some of the models listed have hardware RAID, which is not supported for TrueNAS Core or SCALE.

Last, a PC from 2008 might be too old for practical purposes. The suggested minimum amount of RAM is 16GBs, though some say 8GBs might work. Using any random hardware does not mean it will be reliable in the log term. And most of us are conservative because we love our data and want it to survive.

Go ahead and list the hardware details so we can assist in reviewing suitability for TrueNAS.
