Additional SATA connectivity: LSI IBM M1015

I was reading the Hardware recommendations guide for additional SATA connection for my freenas machine. I am planning to transplant TS140 Xeon ( 5 SATA)to Rackmount case with 8 drives.( I found a couple of posting about this experiment). Therefore, I am looking for raid controller and found this on eBay-
"LSI IBM M1015 PCI-E 8-port 6Gb/s SAS-SATA Controller SAS9220-8i 46M0861"
Will this work ?

Yes. You will also need breakout cables to connect the drives to the HBA.

Hi Ericloewe, I see mention of LSI 9211-8i cross flashing here(https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/confused-about-that-lsi-card-join-the-crowd.11901/). But the eBay ones are 9220-8i. Does it matter, is it the same procedure ?

You're crossflashing *to* LSI SAS 9211 IT mode. So yeah, it's the procedure described in that sticky.

I saw those while shopping but I personally don't like that they don't lock on the SATA end.

These are more expensive but they lock on both connectors. Personal taste? Yes.

Are you sure that the eBay ones don't have latches? The latches, if present, would be on "the underside" of the drive connectors as they are shown in the photographs.

In image "#2" you can see the sata connector on its side showing the bottom. So no, it appears they do not lock. That would be a question for the seller though.
