Hello,

I am sure, this has been asked befor but I was not able to find a related answer. So sorry for for placing likly asked topics again.

I have a small FreeNAS System running FreeNAS 9.2.1 with a single ZFS pool Data in RAIDZ2 built with four 1TB (999.7GB) disks. Freenas only shows me a size of only 1.1TiB for that pool. The ZFS calulator would indicate 1.4 TiB. I would have the size expected o abpout 1.4 to 1.6 TiB but not low as 1.1 TiB.
I have Snapshots enabled to some dataset in the pool but for my understanding, they should not decrease the pool size.

Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanky you!

Hello,

thanks for the immediate reply. Here is the screenshot.

OK, your problem is with the way that 9.2.x shows space in the GUI. The output of zfs list is clearer--you'll notice on the first line it says that Data has 698 GiB used and 1.1 TiB available, which would add up to 1.8 TiB, or 2 TB--the size you'd expect. In the GUI, space is shown as being used by the dataset that's actually using the space, but not by its parent dataset. You can see this pretty clearly with your VirtualMachines dataset--VirtualMachines/Cluster1 is shown using 390 GiB, but VirtualMachines only 46 KiB.

In short, your pool is the right size, but the GUI is kind of confusing in the way that size is shown. FreeNAS 9.3 improves on this quite a bit.

Hello,

thank you for the clarification. To summarize:
The column size in the GUI of the storage page displays the available (unused) space of the pool or the quota of the dataset.
In 9.3.x the irritating column size seemed to removed.

Thank you for your help!
