Hi All,

I'm sure this is an old one and I have read posts saying that hot spares don't work on FreeNAS but I was just looking for confirmation and to see what your thoughts were? You can add drives as spares in FreeNAS but if they're not acting as hot spares why bother?

Look forward to your thoughts.

A recent (within the last month or so) update seems to have enabled hot spares. As I don't have room for spare disks in my chassis, I haven't had the opportunity to test how well they work.

Oh ok. I'll have to check what version of 9.3 I'm running. Like I said I can definitely add disks as spares to the pool but when I offline or pull a disk the spare doesn't take over.

Yeah, there were some questions about the functionality that ended up being mostly unanswered. The devs are pretty much stuck with "works for us" until someone can give them some instructions on how to replicate the issue.
