Has anyone got any tip & tricks on drive replacement?

As some of you may know I've going to have to mange 90 disks spread across 3 JBODs and need to think through the best way to setup in order to make disk replacement as easy as possible.

My main concern is being able to identify the failed drive quickly and match it to its physical location in the JBODs.

Look forward to your thoughts.

Label each drive serial on the front of the trays and then use glabel status and smartctl -i /dev/daX to get the device name from the GPTID and then the serial from the device name. I made a script to print a table with the GPTID, device name and serial of each drive (link "useful scripts" in my sig). I also recommend you to print the list before any problem arise to avoid this kind of thing ;)
